Seoul: The media of North Korea said on Wednesday that the country had conducted a successful test from hypersonic missiles, the government’s media reported, with the leader of Kim Jong UN attended the launch for the first time in more than a year.
On Tuesday’s authorities in South Korea and Japan detected the suspected launch, which draws a condemnation by the authorities in Washington and Tokyo and pushed the expression of concern from the UN Secretary General.
It was the second test in less than a week, underlining Kim’s new year’s oath to increase the military with the latest technology at the time of talks with South Korea and the United States stalled.
“The test-fired is intended for the final verification of the overall technical specifications of the hypersonic weapons system developed,” the KCNA state news agency reported.
After being released from the Rocket Booster, the Hypersonic glide vehicle made 600 km “Glide Jump Flight” and then 2,000 km “sea in the waters” is 1,000 km away, the report said.
“The ability of superior maneuvers from more hypersonic glide vehicles is greatly verifying through the final-fire test,” KCNA said.
Kim urged military scientists to “accelerate efforts to continue to build state strategic military muscles both in quality and quantity and further modernize the army,” KCNA added.
This is the first time since the beginning of 2020 that Kim officially attended a missile test.
“His presence here will suggest special attention to this program,” Ankit Panda, a senior colleague at the US-based Carnegie endowmen for international peace, posted on Twitter.
