Itanagar: Pape Pape Regency Arunachal Pradesh and Aizawl in Mizoram recorded the highest incidence of new cancer cases in this country among women and men respectively, according to government reports.
The report, which was released by the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) and the National Center for Informatics and Disease Research (NCCDIR), stated that the Papumpare district had 219.8 per one case of lakh cancer.
The Mizoram Aizawl airline has 269.4 per one case of lakh among men, he said.
Northeast India is the capital of state cancer with the incidence of cancer that is tailored to the highest age of a newly diagnosed cancer case, said Dr.
Creamy, the main researcher of a population-based cancer (PBCR) at the Passign Permanent General Hospital in Pasighat.
The PBCR project under ICMR-NCDIR, Bengaluru, has studied cancer trends under the National Cancer Registry (NCRP) program, he said on Tuesday.
He hopes that the cancer data disclosed by the project will be used by the government in policy making decisions regarding the prevention of cancer, treatment and management.
The estimated number of cancer cases in the northeast in 2020 was 50,317, including 27,503 was male and 22,814 women, said the report.
Esophagus Cancer is most common in the region with cases of 5,785 years ago, he said.
Esophageal cancer will continue to be common in the northeast to at least 2025, the report is predicted.
Breast and lung cancer is the next most common type of cancer found in the northeast, according to the report.
There were 3,674 cases of breast cancer in last year and 3,413 cases of lung cancer, he added.
The ICMR-NCCDIR study further revealed that Papum Pare also recorded the steepest-adjusted incidence rate (AAR) for gastric cancer (male), liver (both sexes), uterine cervix, ovario and thyroid.
All over the northeast, esophageal cancer (13.6%) was the highest among men, followed by lung cancer (10.9%) and gastric cancer (8.7%).
Among women, breasts are a leading cancer site (14.5%), followed by uterine cervix (12.2%) and bile (7.1%), the report said.
