Copenhagen: Denmark, Norwegian archaeologists say Monday they have found a long group of long, including one of the largest in Scandinavia, using the ground penetration radar in the southeastern part of the country – in the area trusted by the researcher is the central place at the end of the Nordic Iron Age.
Long and narrow long buildings, one room – found in Gjellestad, 86 kilometers (53 miles) Southeast Oslo near the victor vessel-era found in 2018 close to the Swedish border.
“We have found several buildings, all the distinctive iron ages, in the north of the Gjellestad ship.
The most striking discovery is 60 meters long (197 feet) and 15 meters (49 feet), the size that makes it one of the biggest we know in Scandinavia, “Archaeologist Lars Gustavsen at the Norwegian Institute for cultural heritage research said in a statement.
The importance of Gjellestad over the period of time was not immediately known.
But the body, known as Norwegian Niku, said he was trying to find it.
Autumnologists, the archaeologists cover 40 hectares (around 100 hectares) south, east and north are Gjellestad ships found with radar systems, and one of the next steps is archaeological excavation, Niku said.
The survey was the first part of a research project called “Viking Nativity: Gjellestad crossing the border” where archaeologists, historians and Viking specialists have examined the development of the area during the era of Nordic iron which began around 500 BC and lasts around AD 800 and the beginning of age Viking.
“We don’t know how old the houses or what functions they have.
Archaeological excavation and dating will help us get answers to this,” said Sigrid Mannersaaker Gundersen, another archaeologist.
They have also found several burial nuts that are hijacked in the nearest field.
“We were not surprised to have found this grave mound, as we already know there are several other in the surrounding area,” Gustavsen said.
“Still, this is important to know to get a gjellestad picture and more complete surroundings.”
