Haveri: Muslims throughout the world generally offer their prayers in Arabic, but in Chihkka Kabbar in the Haveri district, they pray in Kannada in Hazrat Mehabob Subani Darga.
The village, in Ratihalli Taluk, has done this for around 150 years.
Most of the 400 Muslim families do not know Urdu and Arabic, so Maulvi discusses the community in Kannada five times a day.

However, Maulvis had previously spoken in Kannada because it was easy to communicate with people from the community because they easily understand prayer and discourse.
I also follow tradition, “said Mohammad Peeransab, Maulvi. He at this time said that non-Muslims also listened to Kannada’s prayer discourse in the village.
“There is nothing important in that language, his intention is to understand the theme of religion and the importance of prayer,” Mohammad added.
Hussensab Billalli, Chair of the Anjuman Islamic Committee, agreed with Maulvi who prayed at Kannada.
There is no point in Arabic and Urdu in the mosque during prayer because people cannot follow religion without understanding it.
