New Delhi: The current government does not consider a proposal to reduce the gap between two covid vaccine doses, the National Technical Advisory Group on Chairman of Immunization (Ntagi) Dr.
NK Arora said in the middle of the report that the government was looking at the gap of the dose for the Covishield Serum Institute.
At present, India manages the second dose of covishield vaccine at a 12-16 week interval since the first.
“There are several programs and processed data collection to assess the effectiveness of vaccines.
Ntagi is reviewing regular vaccine effectiveness .
While some cases of breakthrough infections after vaccination reported lately, many experts suggest reducing the gap between the dosage for better efficacy.
However, officials said the decision must be based on evidence.
“There is no concrete evidence so far to suggest that the efficacy of the vaccine against the Delta variant will be better if the gap between the two doses is reduced.
Conversely, the decision is taken on the basis of evidence that shows increased efficacy if the gap increases,” said an official.
India increases the gap between two covishield doses to 12-16 weeks in May from six to eight weeks earlier.
