Varanasi: Noted river scientist and former scientist of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Prof UK Choudhary has composed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggesting a sustainable alternative into this Ganga pollution, that was obscured by the recent evolution of abrupt growth in the river from Varanasi.
“The inadequate potential of STPs and their incorrect places are causing pollution in the Ganga.
The possibility of pollutants in STP is available in the event the STP is situated on the convex lender — the sand-bed facet of the Ganga.
This is the sole method to utilize the STP to control the river contamination,” wrote Prof Choudhary while speaking to the look of algal bloom at the Ganga flow in Varanasi because of thickening of STP in Vindhyachal at Mirzapur district.
“Even the Vindhyachal STP cannot only be asserted to possess discoloured the enormous quantum of the Ganga water for this lengthy period in a number of kilometres of span.
The satellite imagery reflects the dark color of river water across the Assi Ghat area of Varanasi,” he composed adding,”That can be caused because of release of pollutants from several STPs situated across the bank of this lake at Varanasi.” “It is thus demonstrated that the STP is effective at handling the natural load of the pollutant only.
The river may handle this at a little stretch with the assistance of improvement of the microbiological load of a few thousand times.
Therefore, the inadequate potential of STP and its own incorrect place are inducing Ganga pollution.
The STP capacities can only be utilized if it’s rightly found,” he added.
He explained that currently the STPs are situated on the town side lender (concave side) of the Ganga, in which the stream dynamics isn’t effective at trapping, trapping and absorbing the pollutants.
“These Modes of handling the pollutants in STP is available in the event the STP is situated on the convex lender (sand-bed facet ) of the Ganga, that will be present on each of the 3 sides of town,” he clarified.
Prof Choudhary also attached a leaflet –‘The Five Creator of River Management’ — written by him together with the letter, asserting that methodology of contamination direction is discussed in the leaflet.
After retiring from BHU,” Prof Choudhary is now the founder director of this Mahamana Malviya Institute of Technology to get Ganga Management, Varanasi.
The algal blossom emerged at the Ganga at Varanasi about a month ago.
It was originally analyzed by the officers of this regional division of this UP-Pollution Control Board.
Afterwards, district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma comprised a five-member group to check into the issue and submit a comprehensive report.
The group submitted its report following a comprehensive survey ran for three times out of Varanasi on Mirzapur.
According to the evaluation file, that the 4-MLD ability STP in Vindhyachal relies on a traditional system.
It appeared the algal bloom originated in the STP in Vindhyachal.
After receiving this document, the district government sent a petition to the National Mission for sterile Ganga (NMCG) looking for a solution of this blossom.
Taking notice of this, the NMCG delivered a portion of a German compound for handling the Ganga water from Varanasi.
The DM stated that a driveway of water cleanup using the German compound was started in this respect at several ghats around June 13.
Before, Prof Choudhary had written a letter to chief ministry Yogi Adityanath dreading an imminent threat to the Ganga in Varanasi because of the building of a spur (wall socket ) along with a canal at the lake.
He’d posed a set of questions about the plan of this job looking for responses from the government concerned.
But, irrigation division executive scientist Pankaj Verma explained this multi-purpose job will decrease the speed of the river to prevent strain on the ghats because of which the danger of erosion beneath their measures along with historical buildings has been rising.
