New Delhi: WhatsApp on Monday appeared before the Supreme Court and said it had nothing to do with Pegasus.
Public lawyer Tushar Mehta said Pegasus controversy involves technical issues and therefore the government is a technical expert committee to examine all publications raised in Pegasus controversy to eliminate the wrong narratives with personal interests.
“The government has nothing to hide,” SG said and told the court that leading technical experts would be part of the committee.
Judge Aniruddha Bose, part of the three judges led by Cji N V Ramana, said he had several interactions with two applicants in social meetings.
He asked the applicant and the government whether they objected to being part of the bench.
SG and the others say no objection.
An international media consortium has reported that more than 300 verified Indian mobile numbers are on a potential target list for supervision using the Israeli company NSO Pegasus Spyware.
Opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, two union ministers – Prahlad Singh Patel and Railways and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw – Anil Ambani Entrepreneurs, a former CBI head, and at least 40 journalists are on the list on the leaked NSO database.
However, it is not set that all cellphones are hacked.
