LONDON: Defending Champion Novak Djokovic overcame early fears to reach the second round of Wimbledon on Monday with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 victory above Draper Jack ranked 253rd of England.
Djokovic number one world chases the sixth Wimbledon title and major 20th and halfway to become only the third man in history to complete the grand slam calendar.
This is a very rare achievement so Rod Laver is the last person who reached a move back in 1969.
However, when Wimbledon returned after 2020 cancellations because the pandemic, the 34-year-old was struggling on the slippery surface of the central court with the roof closed on it due to rain , Draper left-handed, played only the five matches on the main tour, saved seven of the seven break points in the opening when he surprised the top seed.
But Djokovic immediately killed the danger for him to only the third defending champion to lose in the first round, sweeping the rest of the tie.
He finished with 25 impressive Aces and 47 winners as his 19-year-old opponent withered.
Djokovic will face former Runner-Up Kevin Anderson or Chili Marcelo Qualifying Tomas Barrios Vera for places in the last 32.
