LONDON: Defending champions Novak Djokovic survived the third set of rocky to beat American Qualifier Denis Kudla to reach the last 16 at Wimbledon for the 13th time on Friday.
World number one won more than 114 ranks Kudla 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (9/7) to book a place in the fourth round of the grand slam for the 55th time.
Djokovic, pursuing the 20th majors equaling the record, sailing through the first two sets but then had to fight from 1-4 to bottom and also 1/4 at Tiabrakeraker before he recorded the 75th victory at the All England Club.
“This is a trademark of every pro athlete that you have never given,” Djokovic said halfway to become only the third man in history – and first since Rod Laver in 1969 – to complete the Slam calendar.
“I always try to give a maximum out there, especially when playing one of the biggest tournaments.” When I was little, I dreamed of winning Wimbledon.
