Now, milk to burn a hole in your pocket

Vadodara: Residents who have been shaken under pressure skyrocketing fuel prices during Covid-19 times, now they will have to pay more for their daily milk.
The Federation of Cooperative Milk Marketing Gujarat (GCMMF) which markets dairy and milk products under the Amul brand has decided to increase milk prices by Rs 2 per liter in all milk varieties from Thursday morning.
With this, the price of milk in Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Saurashtra in the Gujarat and Delhi-NCR regions will rise from July 1 while prices in other cities in the country will soar in the next few days.
SUMUL DAIRY based in Surat, Union GCMMF, has climbed milk prices in mid-June.
The price of milk is being revised throughout the country where Amul markets fresh milk.
The price of milk has been going on last in December 2019 before Covid-19 hit the country and the battered economy.
In fact, in 2019, Amul had milk prices twice an increase of rs 2 per liter – first in May and then in December – the same year but in 2020, it made a sensitive decision to revise the price of milk untouched.
The increase in Rs 2 per liter was translated into a 4% increase in the MRP which was much lower than the average food inflation, GCMMF official said.
“We have not made a price revision in our fresh milk category because of more than one and a half years.
Since then, because of the increase in energy costs, packaging, logistics, overall operating costs increase.
Our packaging fee has increased by 35%.
Similarly, there is an increase 25-30% in logistics costs, “said Sodhi Hospital, GCMMF implementing director.
“Considering the increase in input costs, our trade unions have also increased the price of farmers in the range of Rs 45 to Rs 50 per kg of fat more than 6% from the previous year,” he said, adding that the farmers were paid.
Prices are in the range of Rs 680 to Rs 700 per kg of fat.
“The price of milk in Vadodara will also be revised from tomorrow itself,” Deputy Chairperson of Baroda Dairy Golki told Tii after the board meeting on Wednesday.
As a policy, Amul continues nearly 80 Paise from every rupee paid by consumers for dairy and milk products for milk producers, Sodhi said.
“Price revisions will help maintain remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production,” a release issued by the GCMMF mentioned.
Amul currently sells 60 latric liters of milk every day in Gujarat while sales of fresh milk are in almost 1.5 crore liters a day.
This is the procurement of milk 250 lakh per day from the ASI community level associated with its member unions.
