Nagpur: The three regional transportation offices (RTO) – Kota, East and Rural representatives – have got two simulators driving their respective cars to help direct the practice of SIM candidates and examine their driving skills before appearing for land testing.
“On Monday, all six simulators were made operations in each RTOS and officials involved in conducting driving tests trained,” said Deputy RTO officer Ravindra Bhuyar, and added that the simulator would be offered for free to those who appeared to drive the final test.
Each machine costs around RS4.50 Lakh.
Along with three offices, the state has given another 47th RTOS simulator in Maharashtra at a cost of around RS3.30 Crore.
Bhuyar said these machines have been designed for different road conditions including fog mode, night mode, heavy traffic mode, road cottage, ghat parts, upside down mode and parking mode.
“Simulator can be used to prepare permanent SIM seekers (PDL) to handle unpredictable or safety-important tasks that may not be appropriate to practice on the road, such as collision avoidance or risky driving,” he explained.
The clerk said there was no guideline about whether to make a mandatory simulator for PDL search.
Sources, however, are called this waste of public money.
A motorized vehicle inspector assistant who underwent training on operations Simulator said the simulator offered the opportunity for feedback and instructions that were not easily achieved in real vehicles.
Citing examples, he said it is possible to freeze, reset, or replay the scenario.
“Another advantage of this machine is that it has a feature that gives the training participants by judging their driving skills,” he said further.
He said the goal of having a simulator in RTOS was to ensure the “driving safe” skills.
“Candidates who appear for the last driving test can access these machines to check how much they have improved after buying a student license and through driving school training,” said the Transport Commissioner Avinash Dhakne.
