Now, refill city bus cards from your mobile

Gurgaon: Three years after launching ‘digital gurugaman cards’ to enable cash ticket services, Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) on Tuesday launched an integrated payment-based refill facility for smart card holders.
New payment mode, the official said, would allow card holders to use their cellphones as a virtual debit card to recharge the card and another leap to go without cash.
Until now, commuters must visit one of the five bus stops in the city to recharge their cards from special booths.
“Upi-based refill facilities will allow passengers to refill or add smart cards from their cellphones without having to physically visit the booth at the bus stop,” said a senior GMCBL official.
Under the new method, the officials said, the smartcard holder must visit the supported application and click ‘Pay to UPI ID’.
Then they must feed at ID UPI as cardnumber.gmcbl@idfcbank and click verification.
After verification is complete, they must fill in the amount that will be recharged and validate the payment using the security pin.
Officials say after the user receives an SMS confirming the refill, they must contact the Customer Service Agent or GMCBL bus conductor to add value to their card using an electronic ticket machine.
While the commuter welcomes cash, many of which tells the TOI that the process will be more convenient if GMCBL can eliminate the process of contacting customer service agents or bus conductors to complete the refill.
“Sprinkle the Gurugaman Card is a boring and time-consuming process so that it will prevent several commuters from using services.
Digital payments will definitely change it but it will even be easier if someone can only recharge the card without having to bring an intermediary,” said Nalini Kumar, a citizen sector 86.
