Guwahati: The National People’s Party (NPP), the only political party from the Northeast with the status of the National Party, is preparing for the biggest battle of the election in his birthplace in Manipur by becoming an alternative to the national parties who have been tried and tested, including BJP allies .
The party, this time, has doubled double the contingent in the 2017 election, which is the most successful way.
It won four seats from 20 with a sound share of more than 5%.
Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, who is the President of the NPP, is currently crossing the country to be together with each of the 42 candidates who have been offered by the party for 60 members to launch their campaign.
Sangma, in all the election speech so far, has criticized not only Congress but BJP too, whose allies in Manipur in the decision alliance.
NPP and BJP are also partners in the coalition government in Meghalaya led by Sangma.
“People have provided opportunities for national parties such as BJP and Congress.
But they failed to understand the complexity of the people and their needs,” Conrad tells party supporters in every place.
He also said the political scenario in Manipur has changed very quickly in a few months and the last years and “people have begun to lose confidence in various national parties that have come to the country.” “People are looking for alternatives to lead the country and they look at NPP, parties born in Manipur, to lead Manipur and every state in the Northeast,” Sangma said at every political meeting.
NPP was formed on January 13, 1989 in Naoremthong Uripok in Imphal and IT won the first assembly chair of Churachhanpur in 1990.
In 2012, a NCP faction led by the deceased PA Sangma (father Meghalaya CM Conrda Sangma) joined NPP and in January 2013 Sangma’s late launched NPP as a new national party in New Delhi.
In 2019, the Election Commission recognized the NPP as the National Party.Conrad said only NPPs understood the different worries of the Northeast.
He was right in the sense that when the area was burned in 2019-20 during the anti-CAA protest, Meghalaya remained calm when the state government, though as a NDA partner, adopted a resolution to reject the law.
