Nagpur: Students of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Students under Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University will now take care of statues and monuments in the city.
There are 68 statues and 14 monuments within the corporate limits.
The idea is that these statues and monuments must be maintained through public participation.
The mayor proposed to NU VC about taking NSS volunteer assistance for monument maintenance and it was approved by the University.
Memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Nagpur Municipal Corporation and RTMNU.
Instead, the NMC will publish a certificate to NSS cadet.
About 750 students participating in this initiative every year will be given fire fighting through NMC’s Fire College.
In 10 years, 7,500 students will be ready.
“The trained students can be very helpful in any rescue operation in the event of a fire incident,” said Mayor.
“Responsibilities will be allocated for universities in the next few days,” NMC gets information in the press record.
RTMNU Registrar Dr.
Raju Hiwase, polite Pise, among others, was present when the MoU was signed.
