Nurse protests as contract ends NMC, offering jobs on daily wages

Nagpur: More than 400 contract nurses or paramedic staff recruited by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for the task of Covid-19 which was staged silent protest on Monday after their contract was stopped.
Civic’s body has now asked them to work on daily wages, where they will be paid RS500 per day, only when they are called for vaccination tasks.

Delegates of Paramedic staff met Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, Commissioner of the additional city of Ram Joshi and Chief Medical Officer Dr.

They claimed that most of them joined NMC during the first wave of Covid-19.
At first, they worked at the Covid treatment center and later NMC spread it in vaccination centers.
“Most of us left private hospital work and joined the Civic body.
From the first day, we were told by the NMC that we were hired on the basis of the contract for RS25,000 monthly honorariums and even signed bonds,” said para-medical staff.

He, however, asked GMCH and AIIMS to continue the Lab Technician service.
Members of the Paramedic staff who were nervous Pratim Kotnake (name changed) said most of the paramedical staff had left their work at a private hospital to work for NMC.
“Since we join NMC, we work with enthusiasm along with administration throughout the pandemic period from the first and second waves,” he said.
“Our workload is increasing at the vaccination center.
The official time of the work from 10am to 5pm.
But we are always asked to report before 9am and end our daily work not before 8pm,” said a nervous member.
With a lack of vaccines, NMC does not have a job for them and the decision has been taken to end their contract, said an official from the Ministry of Health.
“With most of us from other cities, we have spending such as room rentals, school fees etc.,” said the nurse, and added that if the NMC did not continue their services, they would not work in vaccination centers.
The mayor is sure to solve their problems.
