New Zealand recorded 21 new Covid-19 cases on Sundays, because the current community outbreak from a very contagious Delta variant continued to grow, bringing infections related to the plague to 72, health officials said.
Of the 21 new cases, 20 is in Auckland, the largest city, and one is in the capital of Wellington.
Five people in the hospital, but no intensive care unit.
The Pacific nation of 5.1 million was under a tight lock until midnight on Tuesday because the outbreak had widened outside the two main cities.
Response Minister Covid-19 Chris Hipkins said that around one million people had been fully vaccinated in New Zealand, after more than 50,000 vaccine doses were given on Saturday.
“We continue to provide extraordinary numbers that we can be proud of,” he said.
However, until the current outbreak, the speed of the vaccination of New Zealand is the slowest among rich countries about OECD grouping, with only one fifth of a fully vaccinated population.
This country has just recorded 2,660 Coronavirus cases confirmed since the commencement of Pandemi and 26 related deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.
