OBC quota: Maha to get legal advice

Mumbai: Opposition leader and former Main Minister Devendra Fadnivis on Friday reiterated his request that the election of the local body was postponed until the OBC booking problem was resolved.
He spoke to the media on Friday after a meeting of political parties called by the Government of Maha Vikas Aghadi led by Uddhav Thackeray to discuss OBC reservations.
Fadniv said the census for OBC can be done on the same line as what is done for maratha in four months and which has not been rejected by the court.
He said the collection of empirical data for OBC reservations could be done in three months.
Most of the local agencies must be held in early 2022.
The government, he said, has not prepared data so far.
“OBC reservations have been fully done.
Therefore we demanded that the triple test demanded by the Supreme Court was fulfilled and reservations were restored.
The court has requested an empirical investigation into political backwardness, which can be done within 2-3 months.
It is the responsibility of the Backward State Commission , and if it is equipped with resources, you can do it, “Fadnivis said.
Shiv Sena’s Minister of Development Department of Urban Eknath Shinde, spoke to the media, said the minister’s chairman had instructed the department concerned to ensure the recovery of political reservations for OBC in agency polls.
“It was a positive discussion.
Thackeray made an appeal and the leader of all parties responded positively not to pamper in getting credit for recovery reservations.
At the same time, it has been decided to meet again next week,” he said.
“Recovery can lead to (quota) shrink in some local bodies while it will increase to others to compensate for losses.
The work of collecting empirical data has been going on,” he said.
OBC reservation in the local body was thrown by the Supreme Court in May this year because it exceeded a 50% limit on all bookings.
The Apex Court has read section 12 (2) (c) from Parishads Maharashtra Zilla and Panchayat Samitis Act Thackeray on Friday met leaders throughout the party to discuss the issue in Sahyadri, Guest House.
According to the country’s proposal, this problem can be resolved by keeping all orders including the OBC quota to a 50% limit, considering the population of caste (SC) scheduled (SC) in each local body jurisdiction.
A minister says that without touching the sc and st quota, OBC reservation can be applied up to 27% if possible, others can be less than 27% in the case of total reservations across a 50% limit.
The state will seek legal opinions about this issue before making a final decision about the formula reservation.
Congress President Nana Patole said, “No party who oppose OBC reservation, and each party argues that the OBC reservation must be restored.”
