Objection of TN on the Mekedatu project that is unreasonable: BOMMAI

Bengaluru: Pursuing the Objection of Tamil Nadu to the Mekedatu project as a “political adventure” by the new government there, the Minister of Law and Parliament Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said Karnataka will fight it legally.
Tamil Nadu has a habit of denying everything related to the pact sharing the Cauvery River water, said Bommai.
“The newly formed government led by CM MK Stalin wants to make some ripples to make his presence feel in Tamil Nadu.
So, he has used this political adventure.
We will fight it because we are legally right in our position,” said Bommai.
He said the objection of Tamil Nadu was unreasonable because the Mekedatu project would be useful for Karnataka and Tamil Nadu because the Balancing Reservoir building was intended to take advantage of the excess waters of the Cauvery River.
“There is no reservoir except KRS to store water that can be used when there is a lack of rainfall and the Mekedatu project will be very helpful in providing drinking water to Karnataka while ensuring excess water to Tamil Nadu during trouble.
Even though this is a Win-Win proposition, the Tamil Government Nadu has approached the Supreme Court on the project, “Bommai added.

Stalin ontamil’s letter Nadu Minister M K Stalin on Sunday, in the Movement of Tit-for-Tat, has sent a letter to the Chairman of Minister B, Yediyurappa “urged” he to drop the controversial Mekedatu reservoir project along the Kaveri River.
After acknowledging having received a letter to the head of the Head of BS Yediyurappa, Stalin, “I want to declare the Project Comparison (Mekedatu) who intends to store 67.16 TMC Air, with two Tamil Nadu water power projects will not be correct..
Let me clarify at first That no water consumption in these hydropower projects with available water is only circulated by pumping to meet the demand for multiple power …
“Yediyurappa in his letter had referred to Kundah and Silalahalla pumped.
hydro-electric project storage.
Stalin continued to add that Drawl water from the river for a purpose of drinking for Bengaluru, although permitted by the court, which has been quoted by the state for the purpose of building the Mekedian reservoir “does not sound valid”.
“…
When Karnataka already has adequate infrastructure to draw drinking water to meet the demand for Metropolitan Rea even now, the justification of the need for a reservoir with a storage capacity of 67.16TMC to utilize 4.75 TMC because drinking water is not at all acceptable,” Stalin said , In the end, TN cm said he was very urgent CM Yediyurappa not to pursue the Mekedatu project and sincerely hoped good cooperation and relations between the two countries “.
