ODF campaign throws a hat on the banner of the Panchayat poll

Bhubaneswar: The man, who pioneered the movement for the village free of defecation (ODF), prepared for a new challenge.
He has entered the polls to compete for the Sarpanch post in the next Pancrayat election.
Meet the 40-year-old Mitu from Kandigaon Village under the Khallikote Block from the Ganjam District.
Graduates of political science, Swain always wants to become social workers.
So convincing people from his village to build and use the toilet instead of defecating in the open coming naturally to him.
The success of his business encouraged him to replicate the model in other villages of Pancayat – Kanheipur.
Now the five villages of Panchayat have received ODF tags.
It was on the rainy day in July 2015 which Swain decided to solve the problem of defecation open in his village.
It follows the argument that is heated on a cracked joke by outsiders …
“Initially, I tried very hard to squeeze people with poor defecation in the open.
But they did not pay attention to my words.
However, with help The government, we managed to build a toilet.
But people will not use it because they are accustomed to alleviating themselves in the fields.
So we began to impose a fine of RS 151 to anyone who was found defecating in the open.
Then people began to complain that they did not Having water, so how can they use the toilet.
Even though it’s very difficult for us, the pipe supply starts with the help of the government.
My village is declared free of free defecation in 2016.
Now people use toilets in each house here, “Swain, Also the father of a 13-year-old boy, said.
He added that their efforts also won the public and UNICEF praise.
“We have planted trees near other water and open land.
We have taken a few steps to increase the level of village school sanitation,” Sarpanch candidate, who went from the door to the door looking for sound, said.
During Covid-19, he voluntarily worked at the village level and Panchayat to help migrants.
“During the first wave of Covid-19, no one came out of the house that was afraid of spreading the virus.
I extend my help to Panchayat in managing the quarantine house, providing food and water to migrants and cleaning the quarantine center.
Every time I get an emergency call to carry A patient to the hospital, I immediately reached for the person, “he added.
He wanted to introduce more practices that were so good at Pancayat after he was chosen.
Panangnya has around 3,200 voters, including 948 from his village.
Apart from him, two others fought with Sarpanch posts.
“I am happy to take the farm after completion of graduation and settled in a village.
Helping people give me extraordinary satisfaction and mental peace.
That’s why I like it,” Swain said.
