Cuttack: 15 lakh casts that are lost in different subordinate courts from Odisha, an increase of 1.96 lakh cases since July last year.
Spiraling from the backlog in the case continued despite the increase in the increase in disposal rates (84.23%) after a quantum decline in the release of cases up to (18.68%) during the first wave of pandemic.
Between July 2019 and July 2020, there was an increase in 1.2 lakh cases.
The latest statistics available from National Yudicial Data Grid (NJDG) revealed that during last month (September) 31,785 cases were institutionalized while 26,774 cases were discarded.
During June last year, 13,363 cases were institutionalized while only 2,497 cases were disposed of during the same period, while during the same month the previous year 12,726 cases were institutionalized while 7,218 cases were discarded during that month.
The subordinate court in the country faces uphill tasks because of the gap between the number of institutionalized cases and the amount of release has widened during the first wave.
NJDG data revealed that more than 1.87 lakh cases were more than a decade.
These cases constitute 14.51% of a total of 15.00,869 cases delayed in a lower court.
Of the total cases, 3.02 cases of Lakh are civil and 11.98 lakh are criminal cases.
Civil cases usually involve personal disputes between people and organizations.
Criminal cases involve an action that is considered dangerous for the community as a whole.
The backlog that survives despite the increase in the disposal of cases is associated with a large increase in case institutions and among other reasons inadequate number of judges (more than one hundred vacancies) and courts.
In accordance with NJDG data available on Thursday, 34.46% or 5.17 lakh cases have been suspended for more than five years to increase calf trials.
