Odisha 2 just to ride the number of prisoners with mental illness: NCRB

Bhubaneswar: The number of detainees, suffering from mental illness, has increased steadily in Odisha.
This was revealed in Indian prison statistics 2020 released by the National Crime Note Bureau (NCRB) on Monday.
With 696 mentally ill inmates in 2020, Odisha stood second only to Uttar Pradesh, which had 1,507 mental ill prisoners during the period.
In 2019, at all 626 inmates who were mentally ill asked in different prisons here, the NCRB report said.
Development assumes significance amid the state government and then assigns 15 psychiatrists and 13 clinical psychologists the task of screening mental disease in prison in the entire country and treat them.

The house department formed a committee after being directive by the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC).
