Odisha: 27 districts looked at drought, said IMD

Bhubaneswar: Around 27 of the 30 Odisha districts on Sunday join the list of places with rain deficiency because the monsoon system remains weak for the big part of this month, triggering fear of situations such as drought, said IMD report.
It added that the rain deficit in five districts reached 40% upwards from June to date.
Jajpur topped the table with 54% less than normal rainfall.
Bhadrak witnessed 50% less rain, Balalangir 43%, Keonjhar 42% and Angul 40%.
The overall average rainfall deficit in the country touched 30% compared to normal, the report said.
The IMD fresh bulletin said there would be light rain until moderately in several places for the next two days from Monday because the monsoon system was calm.
After that, the storm activities will cause rain in several places, with heavy rain opportunities in isolated places.
Umashankar Das, regional IMD center scientists in the city, “there will be a slight increase in rainfall activities in the state after two to three days.” He also indicated that there would be more rainy rain from August 28 to 1 or September 2.
