Odisha: AAI Staff in Puri to Examine Global airport Program viability

BHUBANESWAR: The projected Sri Jagannath International Airport at Puri will soon turn into a fact with a group of officials by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) running a pre-feasibility research from the temple city on Thursday.
The fundamental team inspected a 1,000-acre property, about 5km in the Jagannath Temple, for theconstruction of this airport.
On January 1 this year, the chief minister Naveen Patnaik had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and encouraged him to request the ministry of civil aviation to establish an worldwide airport at Puri.
“Even the three-member AAI staff ran the pre-feasibility research, regarding the dimensions of the property (proposed site), its topography, availability of the territory, wind direction, rain, airstrip orientation, economic viability, ecological and coastal regulation zone (CRZ) limitations, if any,” district collector (Puri) Samarth Verma told TOI.
The AAI officials have been advised to attend a high level meeting with senior administration officials at Bhubaneswar on Friday.
The district collector stated the AAI group was revealed a huge stretch of land, sprawling over 1,000 acres, owned and obtained by the state authorities close to the Girala along with Mangala rivers beneath Sipasarubali mouza.
Verma stated the property doesn’t have some encroachment nor can it be entangled in legal disputes.
The proposed global airport won’t violate the CRZ standards since the property is situated over 500 metres from the shore.
Verma refused reports of this airport posing some danger to the structural security of this 12th century shrine.
