Bhubaneswar: Experts while attending the National Conference of Pediatric Infectious Disease (NCPID) -2021 here on Saturday expressed concern for misuse of antibiotics and used too often.
They appealed to people to consult a doctor before taking medication, not independent medicine.
The theme of the two-day conference organized by the Indian Paediatrics Association (IAP) Odisha is ‘antibiotic steward: need hours’.
The pediatricians emphasize creating awareness about abuse and too often using antibiotics.
Nilamadhab Jena, Iap Odisha President, said it was seen that many people bought antibiotics for them and even for their children from drug stores without consulting a doctor.
“If the antibiotic purchased by the person is not used correctly, it creates antibiotic resistance problems,” he added.
He said no new antibiotics were developed over the past two decades.
“We use existing antibiotics.
Because of antibiotic resistance, the latest drugs sometimes do not work.
After 20 years, the situation will become more troubled.
People have to stop abusing such types of medicines,” he added.
Other doctors also discuss this topic in detail.
Some of them say how the lack of doctors, especially pediatrics in rural areas have created dangerous problems.
“Quacks sell antibiotics even with normal colds.
People should consult the right doctor for treatment and treatment,” said a pediatrician.
They also discuss diagnosis and early intervention.
More than 250 pediatrics from various parts of the country attended the conference that would continue on Sundays too.
