BHUBANESWAR: Covid-19 has destroyed livelihoods while it has also presented opportunities for some to create earning opportunities.
Jyoti Ranjan Sahu (25) has used the occasion to launch a home delivery app that has been providing fruits and puja items at the doorstep.
Called ‘MoBhai’ app, it is proving to be handy during Sabitri Brata, a festival celebrated by married women in Odisha.
“It is a custom in Odisha that puja items, fruits and other stuff required for observing the festival come from the home of parents.
But due to the lockdown it has become difficult to go to the market to buy items and send them over to daughters or sisters.
So we decided to start home delivery of these items at an affordable rate,” Sahu.
Through the app started operation from Monday, he has already made 1500 deliveries to households across the city and has received orders of 4500 more.
MoBhai App is operating in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Balasore cities.
The app got an encouraging response after a few customers shared their feedback on social media platforms.
“We have received orders from many people staying outside the state and also from abroad who want to send special gift to their daughters and sisters.
They find it affordable and hassle-free,” said Sahu who has also been making online delivery of cooked food through his app HappyEats.
The gift hampers have two price tags — Rs 500 and Rs 1000.
Each hamper carries fruits like mango, apple, pineapple, dates, banana, coconut, rock sugar, sago, bangles, vermilion, alta, a packet of bindi and a small mirror.
“We tried to give all the stuff required to observe the festival.
Barring a new saree or cloth, almost everything is included in the hamper,” said Sahu who has engaged around 30 people for delivery.
“Thanks to the app we will not miss the festival and will be able to follow the custom.
More youth should think of such innovative ideas during the pandemic,” said Supriti Mishra, a customer.
