Bhubaneswar: The Country Cabinet led by the Head of the Minister of Naveen Patnik on Friday approved the Odisha Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, 2021 to achieve registration of at least 20% of electric vehicles operated with the battery in 2025.
The policy also aims to promote electric vehicle manufacturing and The components, including batteries, in addition to improving innovation and facilitating research and development in areas related to EVs.
Chief Secretary of the Suresh Chandra Mohaparna said below EV policy guidelines, financial incentives such as those available for the manufacturing industry, for purchases, scrapping, subvention in loans, roadpropriation of road taxes and registration fees will be expanded during the policy period.
Mohapatra said it was necessary to reduce emissions caused by various categories of vehicles that plying on the road using fossil fuels in an effort to reduce the rapid increase in global temperature, which has been a concern for the past decade.
“It’s time for us to reduce emissions by reducing dependence on traditional fuel and accelerating the rate of adoption of electric vehicles,” he added.
According to policy terms, the state government will offer a purchase incentive of around 15% in various EV categories, which will reach Rs 5,000 for two wheels, Rs 12,000 for tricycle and up to RS 1 lakh for four wheels.
The state government will also provide 100% interest free loans to its employees for EVS purchases.
Similarly, the government department, office, public sector business will now provide preference to employ and buy EV for official use.
