Bhubaneswar: To strengthen the security system in prison and streamline their management, the state government has decided to provide a body camera to prison officials and get the latest gadgets, including a deep search metal detector, to track inmate cellphones.
“As mandated in strategic renovation and technology implementation, we submit a comprehensive proposal to the government to include a 5T model in prison.
The government has agreed to our action plan for 2021-22,” Director General of Police (Correctional Services) Santosh Umpadhyay said.
He said the deep search metal detector will be purchased for all district circles and prisons.
This will help in detecting hidden cellphones, chargers, SIM cards, and other altlongs that are prohibited in prison.
A pilot project has been approved by the government to procure a 20-body camera imposed for staff, 10 each for Choudwar and Jhar on a prison in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
In the next phase, the camera worn will be supplied to another prison.
The camera worn will maintain a watch on famous criminals and suspects in prison.
