Bhubaneswar: Head of Odisha Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced financial assistance Rs 6,000 for each newspaper Hawker to help them plug in the Covid-19 crisis.
The minister’s chairman also said that they would be given financial protection for accidents.
In terms of death due to an accident, the government will pay Rs 2 Lakh as compensation to the family.
Hawkers will be entitled to anything between Rs 40,000 to 80,000 Rs if left paralyzed.
Also, the family of the newspaper Hawkers, who died of the natural cause, will be given Rs 1 lakh as compensation, CM states.
According to the official release issued by the office of the minister’s chairman, Odisha is “the first country in the country to offer Covid-19 assistance for newspaper vendors”.
A total of 7,300 newspaper hawkers, which have been registered under the Social Security Council are unorganized, will benefit, officials said.
The state will be subject to 4.38 crore rs expenses for that purpose, they said.
Patnik, after making an announcement, said the tall traders have made risks in the middle of a pandemic to provide newspapers and their hard work must be recognized and appreciated.
He further said that the database of a qualified kick was prepared by the Ministry of Information and Public Relations, and each beneficiary would be immediately given an identity card.
