Bhubaneswar: Chairman of the Minister of Naveen Patnaik on Monday lay down the foundation stones for advanced cancer hospitals and palliative care centers in Infovovalwar in Bhubaneswar.
One is the Shankara Bagchi-Sri cancer hospital and the research center and the other is the Bagchi-Karunashraya Palliative Care Center.
The Sri Shankar Foundation will run a 750-bed cancer hospital, while Bengaluru-based Hospice Trust will run an 110 bed palliative care unit.
This will help the capital city to become the leading center of the country in cancer and palliative care services.
The palliative care unit will provide free services, official source words.
Subroto Bagchi, Chair of the Odisha skills development authority and Susmita Bagchi’s wife, chairman of Mo Abhiyan’s school, has contributed RS 340 Crore to two cancer care institutions.
The minister’s chairman praised the couple for this noble effort.
Naveen while overcoming people on the occasion said that both institutions would help Odisha patients in accessing quality health care facilities.
The state government will provide all support for initial settlement, he added.
The Shankara Sri Cancer Foundation, led by Dr.
Srinath, was setting up a cancer hospital that would work on a subsidized cross model.
Naveen further said that Kishore Rao and Gurmeet Randhawa, founder of Bangalore Hospice Trust and their team had served dying needs with dignity for more than 25 years through their Karunashraya.
Dr.
Srinath from Shankar Cancer Foundation said the hospital would be a one-roof cancer center with all care facilities including bone marrow transplants.
The hospital will have PG training facilities about oncology, he added.
Randhawa said the palliative center in Bhubaneswar will be developed as the best palliative care facility in the world.
They will train more than 25,000 youth, including Tribal Girls, in the next five years.
“We started this initiative on Rath Yatra Day and there could not be more devoted work than serving the people,” said Subroto Bagchi.
