Bhubaneswar: Odisha, which has the second largest coal reserve after Jharkhand, has a reason to entertain the budget announcement by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman from four pilot projects for coal gasification and coal conversion into chemicals for industry, feeling people in the industry.
BINOD DASH, West West West Director Limited and Vice President of the Multiple Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited, said Jharkhand, which has the country’s highest coal reserves (27%) followed by Odisha (24%) and Chhattisgarh (17%), will have the highest opportunity for Coal-based project.
Coal gasification if successfully implemented will greatly help these countries, he said.
Srikant Jena, former chemicals and minister of fertilizer Union, said every technology intervention in coal projects if successfully carried out will have extensive positive results for Odisha.
South Korea and China have used the latest coal gasification technology.
When there is international pressure to reduce dependence on heat power plants, coal gasification is a logical thing to do, he said.
