Sambalpur: Double-Laning of Burla Ring Road Project to strengthen connectivity to Burla under Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) remains a non-starter five years after proposed.
, According to the proposal, Jalan Ring Burla will connect Chaunrpur under Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) with Ashok Niwas in Burla.
However, road construction from Chaunrpur to Mundoghat should be taken in the first phase.
While the complete length of the ring road will be around 14 km, the length of Chaunrpur to Mundoghat, which has been proposed to be built in the first phase, about 3.5 km.
Sources in the Department of Public Works (PWD), which will carry out work, say the tender for the first phase work has been resolved.
But the work hasn’t started because of the land of obstacles.
About 41.83 hectares of private land will be influenced by the project.
Initially, the government planned to buy land but the owner refused to part with the land at the price set by the government.
PWD Division-II Executive Engineer, B Pattnik said, “We have provided a proposal to the government to obtain land.
Working on the project can make progress only after approval from the land acquisition proposal.” Sambalpur University, VSS Institute of Medical Science and Research (Vimsar) and Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (Vssut) are all located in Burla.
Proposal for Ring Road is welcomed by residents.
It will also provide better connectivity to Basantpur, where Sinik School, Crpf Group Center, permanent campus IIim-sambalpur, the second campus of Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) and the Open Open Odisha University campus (Osou) will appear.
The road will also help in the expansion of the city to the other side of Mahanadi.
