Odisha: Efforts to start choosing the next DGP

Bhubaneswar: The State Government may say the name of the Director General of the next police (DGP) in the near future with the Chief Secretary of the Suresha Mahapatra and Exit DGP Abhay attended a meeting at the Office of the Public Service Commission (UPSC) in Delhi on Wednesday.
Abhay is set to retire on December 31.
According to this procedure, UPSC will choose three officers who qualify from the candidates and send names to the state government for it to choose anyone from the trio to post.
“We hope to receive three names from UPSC within one day.
The state government will have wisdom to choose anyone from the three officers to function as the next DGP,” said a senior house department official.
Last month, the state government issued a notification, which allowed Abhay to retire from the service on December 31.
The 1986 Batch IPS officer, which was appointed as DGP on November 20, 2019, was assumed to be a fee on December 9 that year.
Although he was scheduled to retire in June 2021, the government extended his tenure to six months to meet the Supreme Court direction from a two-year minimum period for DGP.
Abhay is the first DGP Odisha, which issued his duties for two full years as stipulated by the APEX court.
Go by a list of seniority, batch names of friends Abhay – Pradeep Kapur and B K Sharma – come first as a replacement.
However, the government might not choose Sharma, which was named DGP (responsible) in August 2019 and was then removed from the post after three months in November following allegations of irregularities in a fire safety certificate grant on it.
Current lime is an advisor (scientific) of the National Technical Research Organization (NTRO) in Delhi.
Even though Sunil Kumar Bansal was a 1987 batch officer, his appointment for DGP posts seemed gloomy because he had been far from Odisha for more than 15 years in the central deputation.
