Odisha: Farmers in the Ganjam District looked at a vast harvest loss

Bhubaneswar: Rain Universal induced by Cyclone Jawad for the past three days has destroyed the expectations of farmers expecting bumper plants to recover from the losses they suffered in November.
Hundreds of hectares of plants stand like rice, chili and vegetables have sunk in the Ganjam district due to heavy rains under the influence of Jawad, while farmers in several areas are struggling to drain water from the fields.
Khallikote recorded 158 mm highest rainfall in the state in the last 24 hours followed by Chhatrapur (86.6 mm), polyper (74.8 mm), Kodala (71.4 mm), Ganjam (68 mm), Gopalpur (60 mm ), 58 mm), Hinjili (56 mm) and Rangeilaunda (51.2 mm).
“I have harvested from two hectares and rice lying on the threshing page.
Because there is no choice to store it in a safe place, harvest plants are damaged in the rain,” said Santosh Pradhan from Aska.
“Because we cannot harvest rice, around two hectares of sinking plants,” said Hara Das from Begunia.
Like Santosh and Hara, some farmers in the district bear the burden of typhoon-induced rain, which destroyed their expectations of the bumper harvest.
Some of the rice quintals who were harvested were also damaged by Namek rain in November, the source said.
Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kouse said the rating of plant damage would be carried out from Monday, according to the special assistance commissioner guidelines.
