Odisha: File firs online in theft case

Bhubaneswar: The State Virtual Police Station, whose mandate is only to register a case of motor vehicle theft (MV) online, has expanded its services and can now apply for e-firs, related to all types of theft that occur in public places.
The Virtual Police Station or e-police office began at the Office of the State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB) in Bhubaneswar on January 28, 2020 under the Charter of the State of State of State 5T (transparency, team, and transformation).
The virtual police station has jurisdiction throughout the state.
“For the convenience of people, we have added new features.
We have begun to register e-FIR of all types of theft that occur in public places other than the MV theft case.
However, theft at home is not under this feature.
People don’t Need to run around the police station to file their complaints about theft of their items.
By sitting at home, they can register at the Virtual Police Station via https://citizenportal-op.gov.in/citizen/login.aspx o Cellular Application Sahayata, “said director SCRB Vinaytosh Mishra told toi.
According to the procedure, the virtual police station only registered the case online and continued the details of the case to the police station concerned in the state under his jurisdiction, the violation was carried out to be investigated.
The aim of the virtual police station is to prevent complainants from making a police station round to register their complaints.
Immediately after receiving complaints online, an officer of the virtual police station will call a complainant, collect all details relating to the theft of the goods and the right location about the occurrence of evil in any state in the state.
The officer then will register a case at the virtual police station and forward the details of the case to the police station concerned to be investigated.
Experts said the police had to broadly popularize services from the virtual police station so that people do not need to feel pain to visit the police station to file complaints of theft.
“Not many people know the facilities like that.
Online facilities can prevent harassment to victims at the police station,” said N Mohanty, said a senior lawyer.
It should be noted only 611 cases of MV theft cases so far have been registered at the Virtual Police Station since it was launched on January 28, 2020.
While 10766 cases of theft were registered at the police station in the entire state in 2019, at least 3541 cases related to theft MV.
