Odisha: Five excise officials Hurt in Assault Throughout crackdown on Illegal liquor sale

BHUBANESWAR: A crackdown on sale of illegal liquor through the lockdown turned abusive with sellers assaulting some excise employees and damaging their car in Bharatpur place here on Thursday.
The episode, which left five excise employees injured, happened barely 200 yards from Bharatpur police channel.
A 15-member excise staff had gone into a slum supporting Bharatpur police station to confirm allegations of selling of illegal spirits, ganja and brown sugar at the area.
“After we raided a home and seized huge amounts of illegal country made spirits, the household members in addition to a few sailors attacked us with sticks and iron sticks,” Nilima Jayanti Swain, excise sub-inspector mentioned.
Even the 15 excise officials had been humiliated, and humiliated, attacked and kept hostage by the mob for approximately a hour before local authorities came to learn more about the problem and hurried to rescue the officers.
The authorities also confronted difficulty in receiving the excise officials from this area.
“We thought of overpowering the horse nor attempted to resist since they had been armed with sticks and rocks.
We couldn’t search different homes in the field because of this strain.
We’ve filed a case and will detain the accused involved in the illegal sale of spirits,” another excise officer stated.
Authorities said they’ve registered criminal cases against those accused.
“We’ve arrested four individuals and arrested a couple of other people for assaulting the police officers and preventing them from releasing their responsibility ” an officer by Bharatpur police station stated.
The awkward incident stopped memory of an identical assault on excise officials from town on September 24, 2013.
Two excise officers needed to be hospitalized after having a brazen assault on them by a few drug smugglers in Kadaligodam slum at Laxmisagar region.
