Odisha Govt Encourages R & D in Electric Vehicle Design

Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to establish a center of excellence at one of the universities to promote research and development related to the design and use of electric vehicles (EV).
The government also plans to open the skill development center in Itis to offer courses about electric vehicle repairs and services.
“Department of Development of Skills and Technical Education will begin work-related training programs at EV ECO-System.
Vocational courses can be designed to train EV, mechanical drivers and charging station staff.

The government has asked the Ministry of Finance to make the budget supply nearly Rs 47.5 Crore every year to provide subsidies to buyers of electric vehicles from this financial year.
In accordance with policy, financial incentives ranging from RS 5,000 to RS 4 Lakh for various EV categories will be given to buyers up to 2025.
Considering the current vehicle registration rate, estimated in the next four years, subsidies in EV purchases can touch around Rs 190 Crore.
The transportation department has been asked to regulate the ‘EV cell’ specifically for daily monitoring of policy implementation.
A special portal will be developed for monitoring EV sales, distribution of subsidies to buyers and charging station operators.
In the meeting, Mohapatra asked the Department of Energy to provide special rates for all EV manufacturing units.
“Wake up bye-laws must be made for all homes and workplaces to make it friendly EV with an additional power load that is equivalent to the power needed for filling points,” said Mohapatra.
“The energy distribution company must be asked to take the main role in preparing charging points or stations in various locations,” more minutes read.
