Bhubaneswar: The special task of the Puri police on Wednesday damaged syndicates between the brown sugar supplier and arrested five people in this relationship.
Sleuth seized 250 grams of brown sugar, worth Rs 25 Lakh (250 grams), along with cars, motorbikes, 11 cellphones, RS 5,000 cash and two debit cards.
Arrest including dealers and supply of contraband goods.
Acting on a tip-off, STF intercepted cars and motorcycles near the Puri bypass road and found a contrabanded item hidden in polythene bags.
“The fifth accused of being arrested,” SP (Puri) K v Singh.
The defendant was identified as Dhirendra Sahu (40), Subrat Khuntia (23), Madhab Mandal (28), Aditya Narayan Swain (30) and Suraj Parida (21).
Khuntia is the mastermind of syndicates, which supplies contraband goods throughout the pilgrims together with other districts, added the police.
