KENDRAPADA: The coastal waters of Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur on Monday received quite heavy rain followed by gusty winds and higher wave, under the impact of Cyclone Yaas, and it can be predicted to make landfall about the country’s shore on Wednesday. The incessant rain has resulted in a number of streets and low-lying regions getting water-logged. The people of a rehab colony with a population of about 4,000 in Bagapatia beneath the Rajnagar cube of Kendrapada district are the worst-hit. “Last year, the district government had promised to construct concrete streets within the colony to stop water-logging issues, but nothing was done up to now. Water also has gushed into many homes,” Sudrashan Rout of all Bagapatia stated. Shops of Musadiha, Dalesahi, Balisahi, Lokanathapada along with Joribala near the Paradip port using a joint population of 9,000 are confronting flood-like circumstance. Even the Paradip port is on high alert. “Loading and unloading activities in the port also have been suspended. The Paradip Port Trust (PPT) is now ready to meet any eventuality,” Vinit Kumar, also the chairman of PPT, stated. The drains from the port city have been rid of a war-footing to prevent any potential water-logging issue. Four groups of PPT using chain saws and cover loaders are prepared to function invisibly through the cyclone to clean the streets in case of trees being uprooted by strong winds. Included in the precautionary steps, no inward motion of cargo ships has been allowed from 10pm on Sunday.
