Bhubaneswar: Puri Police on Saturday arrested a priest from a subsidiary temple in the famous Jagannath Temple for allegedly persecuting a 12-year-old girl from Hyderabad on Friday night.
The defendant was identified as the Dash Sangram (27).
At least 136 small temples and subsidiaries are in a large Jagannath temple complex in Puri.
Dash allegedly committed a violation at the Temple of Bamana when the little girl was offered just prayers.
His parents were waiting outside the temple when he screamed and ran out of the crying temple.
The girl told her fate before the parents, who then filed a complaint at the Singhadwar Police Station outside the Jagannath Temple.
The police, who held back on Friday night, arrested him on Saturday.
The victim’s statement was recorded in front of Judge Judicial on Friday night.
“We are very serious.
All legal actions needed are immediately taken,” said Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh.
