Odisha: Micro compost unit takes pressure from DarutHenga Dump Yard

Bhubaneswar: The burden of city solid waste in the dumping page in Daruthenga, on the outskirts of the city, down 100 metric tons every day with work that has begun at the Micro Composting Center (MCR) and Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) hopes to reduce the dumping waste in Daruthenga as early as possible.
“We gradually limit the transportation of daily waste to the site when waste is now being processed at MCC.
After all 43 MCCs start operating, Daruthenga will not be used to dispose of garbage,” said Deputy Commissioner BMC (Sanitation) SUVENDU Sahu.
He said the pile of garbage dumped in Daruthenga would be reclaimed through the process of bio-mining and land would regain its original form.
Tons of waste dumped on the page will run out by carrying out bio-mining – method for extracting plastic and garbage besides the municipal solid waste.
BMC has thrown garbage in Daruthenga since 2008.
BMC said this step aims to cleanse the inheritance waste (old waste) produced by the city together.
National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the civil body to clear the waste like that.
The center has asked the state in this connection to quote NGT sequences.
Bio-mining retrieval will help separate various types of waste.
While household waste after being separated will be processed to make compost in place, hard materials such as metal and plastic will be extracted and recycled.
Since 2008, Daruthenga Village residents have opposed the Civic’s body steps to dispose of waste on sites close to the village.
In the past the site had witnessed a pitched battle between police, civil body staff and villagers.
The villagers complained that for disposing of garbage, the areas around the village were polluted.
Private agents hired by BMC produce around a hundred trips that carry waste every day to clear 550 metric tons of waste produced in the city every day.
At present, 20% of total waste will go to MCC.
