Bhubaneswar: The state government on Tuesday searches for applications from higher school high schools that want to increase seats for the 2021-22 academic session.
This step is seen as a response to the percentage of pass passages in the class X class exam this year, which is likely to create a shortage of around 14,000 seats in higher secondary schools.
“The government has gladly accepted permission to invite online applications through the 7-day Sams portal from higher schools that want to increase seats for the 2021-22 academic session,” read the notifications issued by the school and the mass education department.
The government has also asked higher secondary education director to take steps needed for wide publication of the decision to increase seats.
However, the state has not started the process of entering higher secondary schools.
It is lowned that the record 6.17,876 students have passed the X class X exam this year – the results are declared to follow alternative assessment methods with the absence of physical exams because of the Covid situation – but the state has a total of 6,03,113 seats available at a higher secondary level.
The state has 4,43,354 seats in 2032 high schools higher with the rest in technical institutions.
“The decision to increase seats in higher schools is a welcome step in the government.
Previously, the Minister of School Education and Massa said that seats would be increased by applications received.
But universities can face difficulties in predicting the number of seats needed,” said Nayak Gersa, Odisha Teacher Organizers School and Forum United Employees.
There are examples of state governments that have increased by 15% in higher schools to accommodate more students in rural areas.
While acceptance in technical schools and industrial training institutions have begun, the results of the class X exam done by the CBSE board and ICSE have not been announced.
