Bhubaneswar: The center has urged the Odisha government to give five acres of land to establish an ESI Hospital in Choudwar in Cuttack Regency.
As the construction of existing employees of the State Insurance (ESI) Hospital in this city is very old and located in a protected monument from an Indian Archaeological Survey (ASI), it does not get permission for renovation.
At ESI hospital was founded in 1960.
Maintaining the age of building in mind, the audit of the building structure was carried out by Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR) (formerly the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Bhubaneswar).

However, ASI denied issuing a certificate not objection (NOC) to carry out renovations as hospitals were in the protected monument zone.
Then, the Odisha government has provided an alternative site consisting of five acres of land in Kanheipur Village under Tangi-Choudwar Tehsil for the construction of a new hospital.
“Even though this site is outside the ASI protected by a monument zone, it is located at a distance of 11 km from the existing hospital,” said the State Minister for Labor and employment of Rameswar Teli while replying to questions from BJD MP Mahesh Sahoo at Lok Sabha.
Teli said the Odisha government had been asked to give five acres of land outside the protected area of breast milk and closer to the existing ESI Hospital, Choudwar, because most people insured were around the hospital.
Parthasarathy Panda, Director of the Regional Office of the State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) employees, said he had discussed local Tehsildar officials and the Odisha Industrial Development Corporation (IDCO) infrastructure for land elections.
“I will also discuss with the district collector for suitable land near the existing hospital,” he added.
