Bhubaneswar: Competent Authority Under Narcotics Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) acting on Tuesday ordered the seizure of property worth more than RS 3 Crore owned by several marijuana smugglers in Malkangiri District.
Competent authority, whose office is located in Kolkata, is a quasi-judicial authority under the NDPS law to continue the boding of illegal confiscation of property.
The MV-79 police station in Malkangiri has confiscated around 1406 kg of marijuana which was illegally smuggled in the tractor on February 1 this year.
The police have arrested six people on the same day and arrested five others later because of their alleged involvement in trade marijuana.
Allegations include partners and their sons besides the house keeper who was dismissed.
While nine of the defendants came from Malkangiri, two neighbors belonging to Andhra Pradesh.
Under Chapter V-A of the NDPS Law (A-Z) there are provisions of seizures and confiscation of property that are not owned by the defendant involved in NDPS cases.
During a financial investigation of cases of drug smuggling like that, the police seized mobile assets and did not move which were illegally obtained by the defendant from the business of marijuana.
Police recently sent proposals to competent authorities in Kolkata to issue formal commands or confirmation of the seizure / seizure of property.
After hearing from the police and the defendant (whose property was confiscated), J M Kennedy, the administrator of the competent authority found that the defendant had collected the properties of marijuana business.
The command of the competent authority, a copy with TII, said the defendant produced more money, buying a vehicle and one of them opened a grocery store from the gannis trade profit.
“Our praise for the Malkangiri police for obtaining command authority commands Kolkata confirmed the freezing property belonging to drug traders worth around 3.05 crores in the NDPS / case of MV 79 PS drug.

The competent authority had previously issued an order to seize property worth Rs 1.65 Crore and Rs 4.77 Crore in two separate NDPS cases registered by the Staff Special Task Force (STF) of the State Crime Branch in 2019.
