CORAPUT: Nine people on Thursday were awarded the death penalty by Raya Kabupaten and the session court for the murder of three family members in Kitum Village in 2016 in suspicion of practicing magic.
Public Prosecutor Krishna Chandra Senapati said the district and additional session Gunupur had punished nine people accused of death in 2018, but sentenced to appeal in the High Court after asking the district court to reconsider the case.
“After hearing the argument, the district court found nine accused of being guilty and sentenced to death,” said Senapati.
The incident occurred on September 9, 2016.
Senapati said Asina Sabara, his wife was ambai and Asmani’s daughter was dragged out of their home and was taken to a cowhide where they were attacked by nine accused.
After the three of them fell unconscious, they were buried.
Then, the defendant had diged his body and burned it for fear of being caught, he added.
However, the little daughter of the couple managed to complaint with the Putseing Police Station on September 16.
