Bhubaneswar: The crime branch has sent a proposal to the Department of Commerce and Transportation to empower special police officers (SPO), which moves on the highway patrolling the state, to punish traffic violators.
At present, spos is not authorized to issue Challans to traffic violators when they are appointed following their retirement from the Odisha police.
“We have sent a proposal to the Department of Commerce and Transportation to delegate strength to spos to issue Challans related to motor vehicle laws.
Another proposal has been sent to the department of the house who is looking for a power delegation to the spos to catch drunk drivers.
Powers, if given to The highway patrol unit, will increase security on the highway, “said the Director General of Police (Crime Branch) Sanjeeb Panda.
The software application is being designed to monitor the performance of the highway patrol unit.
This application will be included in the network and a criminal tracking system and system (CCTNS).
Police supervisors have been asked to arrange vehicles for patrol units in their jurisdiction.
