KENDRAPADA: Residents on Friday found a large demolition drive against illegal prawn farms in Bhitarkanika National Park from the district according to the purchase price of the Orissa high court.
The high court, in its order dated May 31, had directed the district administration to dismantle all illegal prawn gheries at Bhitarkanika later Mohit Agarwal, the amicus curiae, pointed out that despite having a set of statutory terms, the brazen breach by those working prohibited prawn gheries is ongoing and no situation or complaint was filed against the violators.
The court directed that the Kendrapada collector to organize for satellite confirmation of the whole field for detection and control of proliferation of prawn gheries.
“We’ve begun demolition of all prawn gheries over woods and government property in Dibakarpur village.
All fish farms are illegal because they violate both the coastal regulation zone and also the rulings of the Supreme Court and higher court,” said Niranjan Behera, the sub-collector of Kendrapada.
