Bhubaneswar: The country on Wednesday reported 24 cases of Omicron raised the cumulative number of new variants to 61.
Infection included 19 without travel history and five who returned from Sweden, France, Qatar and Malaysia.
Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) said the genome sequencing was carried out for 218 positive covid samples.
“Some contacts samples are more positive and take foreign returns in the queue for genome sequencing.
We are conducting genome studies every day to ensure a variant so that the prevention step is taken on time to check the spread,” said Ajay Parida, Ils Director.
Three people, who have tested the positive omicron variant after they returned from Nigeria, had recovered after treatment at Sum Covid Hospital here, said press release.
Amid a close panic caused by the increasing number of new Covid patients in the state, a woman and two of her daughters were tested positive for a new variant and received at Sum Covid Hospital on December 21.
