Bhubaneswar: Odisha faces 16 natural disasters, including 10 cyclones in the past 11 years, which causes the collapse of the extent of public and private property.
This was revealed by the Minister of Sudam Marndi’s income and disaster in a written reply to the State Assembly on Friday.
Marndi said the country was hit by three droughts, two severe flooding and one example of rain before the time in addition to 10 cyclone storms from 2010 to 2021.
While property is worth more than RS 35,000 Crore damaged in natural disasters, the state government receives central assistance.
Only around Rs 8,000 Crore during the period.
A very severe cyclone that hit the state and caused massive destruction including Phailin in 2013, Hudhud in 2014, Titli in 2018, Fani in 2019 and Yaas in 2021.
During such times, the government used a disaster response fund Country, which has contributions.
75% of the center and 25% of the state government.
In the case of more requirements, the state government utilizes a national disaster response fund.
Because the country is vulnerable to natural disasters due to its geographical location, the government here has demanded the status of ‘special focus’ and center grants equivalent to the northeastern state and Himalayas.
It has been seeking major assistance around RS 17,000 Crore from the center for that purpose.
Chairman of the Minister of Naveen Patnaik also demanded requests before Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the meeting here.
