Bhubaneswar: In an effort to strengthen police posts, the state government has decided to appoint sub-inspectors (SIS) to lead these units.
Previously, officers at the rank of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) were heading to the police station.
At least 216 police posts have functions under the control of the police station throughout the state.
The Chairman of the Naveen Patnaik Minister on Tuesday approved the appointment of SIS to lead the posts.
“The front post of 216 police who came under the Police Komarisansi, District Police and Government Train Police would now be manned by SIS.
