Bhubaneswar: The state government has taken steps for Covid-19 vaccination of transgender people.
Union of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) has communicated with the state to facilitate vaccination of these people without discrimination or cause discomfort and social stigma.
Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, additional head secretary (Health), has asked all district collectors, commissioners of all city companies and medical health and public health officers along with their team to ensure the coverage of 100 percent of transgender people.
“If such people do not prescribe an identity card, the standard operating procedure (SOP) that is communicated earlier about the vaccination of citizens without the specified identity card must be followed and registration and vaccination must be ascertained,” said Mohapatra in the letter.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 vaccination pregnant women have begun in the state of Friday.
On July 2, Mohfw has enabled pregnant women to take Covid-19 vaccination.
Bijay Panigrahi, State Nodal Officer for immunization and director of family welfare, said that new features for pregnant women have been added to the Cowin portal to maintain their database.
The health department source said 1284 pregnant women had taken their first dose of vaccines on Friday.
The forefront of health and vaccination is a counseling of pregnant women about vaccines so that the mother who hopes to make a decision based on information.
Previously, the government had allowed nursing mothers to take a dose of Covid-19 vaccine to get protection from a deadly virus.
